Scam · pretends to be Amazon
Fake Amazon clearance sale advert, 90% off
The real message, with personal details covered.
What happens
A sponsored advert pretends to be Amazon and promises huge clearance discounts like 90% off. It sends people to a fake shop to steal their money and card details.
Warning signs
- Impossible discounts "Up to 90% off" plus "Extra 80% off clearance" is far too good to be true.
- Odd advertiser name The advert is posted by "qdhydsl", a random jumble of letters, not Amazon.
- Fake urgency "Last day of the Amazon" is meant to rush you, and the sentence is badly written.
- Warehouse stock photo The picture is a blurry warehouse photo with crude, stretched text, not a real Amazon advert.
- Sponsored advert, not Amazon Amazon does not run offers like this from strange accounts. The small arrow leads to an unknown site.
How this scam works
- Scammers pay for adverts that copy a famous brand like Amazon and promise huge discounts.
- You tap the advert and land on a fake shop that looks real.
- The site asks for your name, address and card details to buy cheap goods.
- The criminals take your money and card details, and you get nothing or poor-quality items.
- Your card details may be used for more theft or sold to other criminals.
What to do
- Don't tap the advert or the arrow, and don't enter any details or pay.
- Take a screenshot to keep as proof.
- Report the advert as a scam using the three dots or the report option on the app, and report it to Amazon through its official website or app.
- Tell your family and friends so they don't fall for it too.
